IPOD MP3 Adapter?

I am about to be the proud owner of a black 2005 Matrix XR AWD. I was curious if they come with a plug in for an MP3 or IPOD. Just curious cause I swear I heard that somewhere.

If the car comes with the 6-disc head unit, there's no plug for an mp3 player. If it's the standard head unit, you can play mp3 cds AND there's an audio plug for your mp3 player.

My 2006 XR came with the 6-disc changer. I picked up the USA Spec aux adapter from CircuitCity for about $50. It just plugs into the back of the head unit, and I didn't have to pull it out, I just reached back there and plugged in the adapter. Here's the link to Crutchfield with the info:

Also, I had posted another thread in here about how to mount the ipod in the Matrix. I did a lot of searching, and I found some customized mounts for iPods and PDAs and whatnot. The problem is, that the console is shaped weird, so you really need a customized one that is slanted and goes above the head unit. The base costs about $30 and the specific iPod mount to go on top of the base is another $25 for stationary and $35 for one that swivels.

Instead of buying one of those expensive pieces of plastic, I picked up an old Belkin Tunebase (the one that charges, not the FM transmitter) for about $35 off of newegg. It works great with the audio adapter, because you just stick the iPod in the charging dock, and there's an audio output right on the cigarette plug. The sound is so much better than the headphone jack out of the top of the iPod. And the stiff neck holds the iPod high enough for me to see it and change tracks, so no mount is needed.

Here's the one I got. I have an iPod Mini, so be careful that you get something that works with your model. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16855999618

In my opinion, FM transmitters always sound terrible no matter what brand/model. As I said, I don't use an FM transmitter, I got the line-in adapter for the head unit, and the old Tunebase that only charges and outputs audio, NOT the Tunebase II with FM transmitter.
