Replacement tires for '03 Matrix?

I have a 2003 Matrix with three of the original Continential tires that I am now finally having to replace. They have nearly 45k miles on them. I had to replace one original tire a year ago after driving over a huge piece of metal. (I just bought a cheap tire from Walmart to carry me through until I could afford to buy four new tires.)

I'm currently shopping for replacement tires and have narrowed it down to Goodyear Assurance TripleTred and Yokohama Avid TRZ. I'd appreciate hearing from any '03 Matrix owners who've replaced tires recently and what they bought. I drive in snow and ice, so traction is very important to me. Thanks.

P.S. The Continentals were horrible in snow and ice. I am hoping my new tires are much better in those conditions!

I put some Pirelli P6's on my matrix back in November and they did great in the snow and cost less than $450 for all 4.

Stay away from GoodYear RSA tires (came stock with my Matrix).

Very bad in the rain, however they are also very quiet.

naturally, getting dedicated winter wheels and tires is ideal

but ur just interested in the 3 season tires and the goodyear tripletred would be ur best bet
(2 frends of mine use it and are satisfied with them)
no idea bout the avid trz tho

Canada Tires

I would have to say that the Michelin Hydroedge are one of the best all season tires if you don't plan on buying winter tires. My friend has them on her jetta and they are awsome, plus they are rated for 140 000km. But of the 2 you are looking at i would go for the goodyear over the yokohama.
