Is replacing the outback going to save me money?

I am currently driving a 2000 subaru outback. I do ALL city driving and short trips to boot...and get approx 20 mpg. I have to fill my car every three days. We started looking at more fuel efficient cars--I did searches on here regarding the fuel efficiency of the corolla but really only found threads on problems people were having.

We are getting an FJ cruiser in a few months so we feel like we can downsize the subaru--however, is it going to be worth it to replace the subaru when we only have 2 yrs left on the loan?

So my big question is:

What is everyone getting for CITY mpg in their Matrix? I did see the thread on this but a lot of people were doing highway driving and I do all city....

I personally don't think its worth it. You might or might not save money.

As for my City driving, the worst milage I've gotten is 21mpg, and best is 24. this is for city.

Highway the best ive gotten is 30mpg. But do keep in mind I have an XRS, which downs high octane like a drunkard....if you push it the way I do. XR or base will yield better numbers.

i don't think it will save you money (gas wise) if you are going to replace it with an FJ Cruiser (there's nothing wrong with the vehicle) that use same MPG as your subaru. I meant is, why would you get out of the 24 months left on the loan and jump into 60 months loan....the subaru is almost paid off, stick with it- 24 mo's will go by fast but unless you can't really wait, go ahead and get an XR like what Crazzyboy said

but if i were you, i would wait it out. you have already invested time and money on your subaru, stick with it!

If i was going to replace it with anything the yaris would probably be your best bet if ur only driving in the city. Much better on gas in the city than the matrix.
