Canada Road noise??

I have a 2005 base matrix and have been experiencing alot of road noise. Just changed tires, aligned and balanced, and still get the droning noise? Any ideas what might be causing this? Appreciate any and all feedback!

i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but im gonna say this is normal with the matrix. for its cargo capacity, the matrix is a pretty light car. Nissan Versa, dodge caliber, and even the honda fit are heavier. there just isnt alot of sound insulating material in the matrix. toyota could have made the matrix quieter, but then it would be pushing 3000 lb like the caliber and i'd cringe at the poorer mileage this would cause.

additionally, hatchbacks let in a lot of road noise compared to their sedan counterparts. i tried all the same things as you with my 05 matrix, but finally had to accept the matrix lets in a pretty fair amount of engine/tire/wind noise.

i eventually traded in on a corolla, mainly for better mileage but have noticed considerably less engine/road noise coming into the cabin.

EDIT: sorry, i assumed you were a new owner??? if not, i guess you'd already know the normal noises in the matrix and perhaps this is a more serious problem.

Matrix Low Frequency Noise

With the back windows down and travelling over 80 KM (40 mph) the sound vibration is intense. Hope you all a Air conditioning at least. Pontiac Vibe clue you in?. Windows are an important componant to the structural integrity, so keep em closed!

poor aerodynamics

Sadly the one thing that hurts the xrs is aerodynamics, I know when I have my windows open, it just sucks so much air in. Most cars are designed to push the air away from the windows, unlike the matrix, which really sucks when using wiper fluid because itll come in through the window no matter what speed im going

yah thats my first impression too.. espcially the engine , the take off is noisy but once you get cruising its ok.

do you think the rain guard/visor will help aerodynamics

That could increase the road noise dramaticaly. That is the thread pattern of the new tires.

I Dynomatted all my doors and rear hatch when upgrading my speakers, it helped espeacially in the rear end. You just can't quiet down the engine and tranny wind of a 2ZZ. I got a guy at a stereo shop who buys in bulk and sells cheaper than the individualy packaged sheets.

USA Doesn't seem that noisy

My 2006 XRS doesn't seem that noisy to me. I don't think that they made any changes in this year model? Maybe I just need to turn down that JBL system so I can appreciate the noise..... nah.
