after market cruise control

Just bought an '03 Matrix and the only feature it didn't have that I wanted was cruise control. I'm getting an estimate from a local automotive place to install it (it will probably be around $450), but also called the Toyota service dept. for a comparison estimate. The service manager said Toyota will not install cruise control on a used model. He also said that he has seen some problems when it is installed after market - sometimes it doesn't quite sync with the car's computer. Has anyone heard this before, or had problems with after market cruise control that was installed?

Never had aftermarket installed.
But it makes sense.....
Aftermarket parts DON'T always jive with OEM.
Especially when you are dealing with newer ECUs.
Basically you need to decide if you want to gamble $450 to see....
