Has anyone replaced their antenna. Looking to replace it with a shorter one, as the garage has limited height.
Let me know what the alternatives are...?
thx
I did replace mine with a shorter one and it looks really good except the reception is gone bad (they disclose it before I bought it off e-bay), it's all good though coz' i usually listen to CD's or my MP3's
how much shorter is it? That's one of my biggest concerns, is that I'll lose FM receptivity. Still need to get FM stations. What about the scenario of cutting if shorter and then bonding the tip back on? Sounds ghetto, but I've seen this done and with good results.

Hey, has anyone installed one of the Sharkfin Antenna's? If so how was the install/fit and more importantly the reception compared to the stock antenna?
Most people have been replacing them with S2000 antennas. Another cheaper alternative is Suzuki Aerio's antenna.
I have an S2000 antenna.
How much shorter is the S2000 antenna? I assume it's a direct screw-in replacement? This weekend, I tried to cut it off....actually more work than I thought. Have to bond the inner shaft and then reconnect (solder) the thin copper wire that wraps around the shaft. Probably more work than it was worth. Just have to screw it back into car and see if reception is affected. In total, I took off 8-9 inches.
edit: tried it on and it works perfectly. Even tried to tune in a station from Buffalo, with and without the antenna and the final conclusion is that it works just fine. With the "stubby" antenna, I can even get the Buffalo station, so all is good. And I managed to finish it off with a glossy finish. Small win for the DIY-er !

I did get the sharkfin antenna, put it on yesterday. The paint match was dead on, they did a nice job (Phantom Gray pearl).
Nothing was wrong with the original antenna, I just liked the look of this one.
I was a little concerned about reception, I have all original radio equipment, But so far I can't tell any difference, and I'm pretty picky. I was worried about alternator whine, weak signal, etc.
You unscrew the original antenna whip and use a screw to attach the lead for the fractal antenna inside the new fin.
Thanks for the tip, Clamhead. I was curious about those myself. Would you mind checking in after another week or so and let us know if you still think this is a good product? I want to buy one, but don't want to sacrifice reception.
i absolutely love this antenna and they color matched it amazingly. i havent had a single problem with it. reception is the same maybe a lil better. let me know if you have any questions. i have had it for about 2 1/2 months already, and not a single problem
I haven't noticed any degradation in reception at all. Just be sure when you get ready to do your final drop onto the roof, that you are positioned right where you want to be, because the tape is some tenacious stuff.
