Winter Milage In Imperial

Trying to predict the milage I will get with a 2006 AWD. Auto tranny. Long trip planned through mountains and down into prairies. Any takers?

I have a similar car to yours (2006 XR 4WD auto). I got 253 miles (~407km) on my first tank (mixed city and highway driving). You should get at least that. If you go with the 31 mpg figure, then expect about 341 mile (~549km) range on 11 gallons (~41.7 liters) (4WD tank is smaller than 2WD at 11.9 gallons I believe). Unless your engine is broken in, I doubt you'll get over 30 mpg highway. I have 550 miles on my car .

I don't have AWD, but my numbers can provide you with an idea, when compared to EPA figures. (all numbers are for Canadian gallons, not those teensy American gallons)

I believe my Matrix XR, automatic, all the goodies, was rated at 34 city, 44 highway. During my break in period (I'm still under 5000kms) I have averaged 32 city, and 42 highway. This includes extensive use of A/C.

You should probably figure on a couple MPG less than what I'm getting.

554 miles. That's what the odo read when I noticed that the engine didn't emit a low frequency buzz at around 3800 rpm. I was passing another vehicle on the highway and was expecting the buzz and boom from the engine, but it was much more muffled--much less apparent. It seemed like I had a more refined engine under the hood. Then another great thing happened. When the gas light came on, I drove another 10 miles to the gas station and filled up with 10.1 gallons. I had managed 310 miles (mix of city and hwy driving) on my second tank of gas yielding me about 30.7 mpg. That's quite a bump in mpg compared to my first tank. I am happy.
