How to Spend 1K?

I've always been a Honda person, wife wanted 4wd/awd but not an SUV. So I recently picked up a new 2006 Matrix Xr 4wd. You can't beat the value of this car and it's bigger than any Subaru in the price range. We're gonna throw a baby seat back there one day (my fault I know...), but for now I have up to $1K and was wondering what recommendations you would suggest to increase low/mid end power. I'd like to improve my 0-60 times. I've read a little about CAIs, chips, exhausts, lighter pulleys, etc. but I'm looking for best bank for the buck at this point. Thanks.

From what the guys are writing, the most noticeable difference is with a CAI and exhaust.

your best bet is to go with the cosmo intake, and a custom exhaust (AWD). You'll have enough money left over for some lowering springs and a strut tower bar to stiffen up the ride a bit.
