seatbelt buckle hits storage

hi, I am on my third week of owning my 05 matrix and one annoyance that I encountered is when you buckle up the seatbelt you get 99% chance of hitting or at least touching the storage compartment in the center. It already has scratches made by the first owner and eventhough I am very careful It always gets in the way.

Does anyone have suggestion? Maybe putting a sticky rubberized padding (somewhat like an electrical tape, but rubber type).

ive never hit the storage in the middle and im not a small guy....

my suggestion: take your time puting it in the hole

i guess my seat was too far back .... i'll be triple careful..
