Reqd Maint light....

I just noticed today that my "Required Maintenance" light came on on my 2005 Matrix XR. It blinks 6 times when starting the car then shuts off. Could this be because the car is in need of an oil change? Or could it be because the odometer just turned 10,000 miles? I don't want to call the dealership right off the bat because I can imagine if it's something minor they may try and take advantage of my inexperience with the Toyota.

Any ideas?

I did see that thread but I guess with the cars I have had in the past, I am not used to a light coming on to tell me I need maintenance. That, plus I didn't get a manual with the car.

Is there still a possibility the light came on because it reached 10,000 miles?

The light is programmed to come on every 5,000 miles unless the dealer resets it after getting your car serviced. It's fairly easy to reset yourself.

Thanks for the tip. I did call the dealership today and she did tell me that the last oil change was at 6995 miles, so it is due for an oil change.
