So my 2006 XRS had it's first service appointment this week...All went well but I had 2 problems that I needed my dealership to address so I thought I would see if anyone else has had these problems...
1) Over the past 2 months or so I had noticed that the hatchback door was really struggling to fully open...I would open the door and it would only open about 3/4 of the way then stop...I would then have to manually push it open the rest of the way. I had the dealership look at it and come to find out the right "lift support" was no good. They have ordered a replacement...anyone else have this problem or heard of it?
2) All four clips on my foldable trunk cover have broken. This actually happened shortly after the car was delivered and we picked it up. I brought this up at the same service appointment and they have ordered 4 new clips for it. I was hoping they would just give me a whole new cover and throw my broken one out. Has anyone else had these clips break?
I have the same problem with the rear hatch pistons. Undersized for the application.
Thanks as always for the input Frank...I was sick and tired of always bumping my head on the damn thing...so it will be interesting to see how long this new one lasts...
The right clip on my spare tire lid lock is bent so the right side cant lock, but the left one can, I will replace it soon though, cant be too expensive of a part
anyone ever try putting hood pistons in from another car (like say, a Camry)? I'm just curious to find out if it would work....probably have to locate new anchor points
Well its not the anchor points you have to worry about, its the weight of the hatch, which weighs much more than car trunk lids. Plus the struts have to be able to lift the hatch while it is pointed directly towards the ground. trunk struts only have to have enough pressure to push the trunk up while its already parallel to the ground. Any strut from a car trunk will not be strong enough to lift a matrix hatch

Thanks to you all for your info!!
WAS THIS REPLACEMENT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY???/
only have the problem with the hatch when it gets cold outside, during the summer it lifts all the way up.
Sounds like a common problem, I have noticed this as well, in the winter i have to push it up past 3/4, now the the weather is getting warmer they work much better but still not 100%, it moves slowly for the last 1/4 but does make it there within about 10 seconds. A friend has an 04 vibe and it opens up quickly with no issues even in the cold.
