I luckily found a brand new 2005 XRS 2 months ago. The dealership lost the car in the yard where they store the new fleet. Since the 2007's were hitting the lots they gave me a screaming deal.
I was gonna buy a used XR but the deal fell through so I just jumped in my 97 civic and bought a the XRS the next day.
You do see XRS's on the buysell ads from time to time.
Back in 2005 every dealer had atleast 2 XRS's. When shopping for mine in may of 06, I shoulda known something was up when I couldnt find any on the lot. Lucked out at the one dealer I was hoping to avoid, got one fresh off the truck. Test drove it with 6 miles on it, bought it a few days later.
don't know why the xrs is gone for the '07 lineup, but word is that they're changing the body style of the '08 matrix. so i'm guessing bigger engine of course. but also, the article i read (can't remember where) they are going to make the new model towards a scion line because of how it attracts the younger demographic.
so you might see a big, or maybe subtle change in the new matrix.
i hope they unveil it at this coming la auto show. i plan on going like i try to do every year.
i think the corolla xrs came out when the matrix xrs came out in '03 (well '02 because the year before) its been only about 3 years since the matrix has been out. so i guess toyota got rid of it as well as the matrix xrs. don't know why, maybe not selling as much as they thought.
$23,995 which included a full tank of 87 octane gas (WTF!!!! can we say ping!!!)
No perk or additional goodies. I realize its a 2005 but in the grand scheme of things if you look at the projected ownership of a car for at least 8+ yrs there isn't and issue for me.
I was gonna buy a package B matrix XR but then I realized that I'd be happier with rear disc brakes. I basically saw it and wrote a check.
Don't know about the Matrix, but I just purchased a new 06 Corolla XRS for $23400.00 which included All Season Mats, Hood Deflector, Trunk Liner and full tank of 91. There are 3 XRS Corolla's left in Canada...1 in Montreal, which I believe to be a demo and 2 (I think) are in BC. Ask any dealer to do an inquiry on there system, they will show up....they are all black as well. They should be able to do this with the Matrix as well, and deals can be had...they pay upwards of $200.00 a month to hold a car in there showroom...they want to get rid of them......
the 2007 matrix m theroy replaced the xrs. that came out a couple months ago i think. its really nice too. when i was getting my matrix serviced i was walking around the lot and saw one those, and i wanted to go inside and trade my 06 with less than 5k miles on it, lol. but the prents wouldve had a fit

No way. Corolla XRS came out in 2004 as a model year of 2005. Perhaps, my Corolla XRS was one of the first one's built since it rolled out of the factory on April of 2004. It was produced only for two years (2005 - 2006) and the production numbers are less than 7000.
