Question rear view mirror dimmer?

anyone have the auto dimmer on their rear view mirror as a after market purchase?
i'm looking to get one of those, but i'm wondering if anyone has bought it and installed it themselves?

it's a pain to drive here in socal near la with a lot of raised suvs and trucks and having their lights shine right at my mirror. which is why i got my windows tinted dark, but i still want to have that auto dimmer with the compass built in. because i used to have a compass in my previous car, and i loved it. now i'm starting to get lost when i travel to unknown places, and i get frustrated pretty easily.

if anyone has done that, please let me know what you think about it.
thanks.

p.s. tn seems to be dead lately, nobody has posted in almost 24 hours.

i saw that rear view mirror with compass.. its about 200$ on ebay.. I was thinking of replacing my stock mirror but I am using a wide angle clip on mirror, (you know those rectangle shape) . and therefor will block the compass anyway..

well i guess to add on to my post without editing it, the dimming mirror i'm talking about is one that you can find on the scion tc that comes as an option, i think its like $300 from toyota. when i went to the toyota website, i thought i saw it as an option for the matrix, but i don't think any dealer would have that on when they would sell the car.

echo, i know what mirror you're talking about that you have, what i want to know is if you hit the mirrow when you put down your sun shade?

yes it does touch the sun shade... but with my driving conditions and and being in canada I dont use the sun shade that often...

The wide angle mirror is great help especially with the matrix having considerbale blind spots.. I took the mirror from my old MPV btw..

well i would reccomend a junk yard mirror (if you wanna save some $$$$)...... they are not made specifically for any vehicle, as far as connecting them i believe there are like only 4 wires to connect (done it once), pretty easy if u have a decent 12v w/continuity tester...

1- Constant 12v ---- for compass settings if its built in, saves calibration, and dome lights
2- Switched or ignition 12v for actual power on of mirror functions once key is on position.
3- Ground wire
4- Wire to connect maplights to overhead dome light, so when doors are open ALL lights operate as one.

pretty sure thats bout it.... may be an extra wire or so, I do know GM has some nice mirrors if you can find a newish car in a bone yard prolly for like 50 bucks, or better EBAY from someone with good feedback....
