I got a USA Spec Auxillary Interface connection for my 2007 Phantom Grey Pearl from Circuit City for my MP3 player. It works perfect. It plugs into the back of the factory stereo and I can use my MP3 player as well as the cd player in the stereo. It only took me about 30 minutes to install it. I ran the cable under the carpet and drilled a hole in the center console to put the cable through. Now I can leave it in the center console and charge it and play it while leaving it hidden in the console. If you want I can send you a picture of my finished product.
Before I bought mine, I called Crutchfield and confirmed that the single CD player interface would work as well. Contrary to what I have read with other user's experiences, I am able to use the cd player even after I installed my auxiliary interface. I will send you the exact part number of my interface when I send you the pics of my install.
Just wanted to confirm how great the USA Spec brand aux interface is on my Matrix.
I did very little to install. Just unhook glove box and reach back and plug into the back of the stereo. I dropped the cable down until I could pull the other end out below the shifter, where that other little box is.
I used my dremel to carve a small hole in the box drawer for the cord to go through, and then shoved the aux input box in there. Then I bought the original Tunebase (without FM) and plugged the audio from the tunebase into the aux input, and the Tunebase looks great sitting in the cigarette lighter 24/7.
It's playable, viewable, and removable. Don't know what I'd do without it!
So what about the Matrixes (Matrices?) with the 6-disc changer. It seems that if it has the factory cd changer then the aux adapters won't work. Is there an adapter that works with that 6-disc changer?
Model Number DF-TOY. I have an '07 XR with the factory 6 cd in dash changer. I saw this at Circuit City, so I thought 'what the heck, I'll try it!'
The manual in the box says it won't work at all with the 6 CD changer, but I didn't find that until I already had it home. Oh well.
So I plugged it in, and it sorta works. By which I mean the aux switching works like the manual says it will. CD6, track 1 is the aux1 set of inputs on the USA Spec box, and CD6 track 2 is the aux2 set of inputs on the box.
When I first plugged it in, I was playing a couple tracks from CD disk 5, then I selected disk 6, played with the mp3 player a while, confirming both sets of inputs worked.... then tried to select back to any disk besides 6.... and found that it would only play disk 6 after that. So I unplugged the USA Spec box and put everything back to factory spec.
So, anyone have an angle on an interface box that lets the 6 CD changer, and the AUX work? Everyone I've been talking to says such-and-such may work on an '06, but no one claims one to work on the '07? Whats up with that?
where can I find these "such-and-such" claims? I just need to hook up an iPod and keep the functionality of the 6-disc changer in an '05 Matrix? Preferably being able to control the iPod through the HU, but not necessarily.
Took the USA Spec DF-TOY back to Circuit City, told them it didn't work. They said, try another one, it may be defective. So out to the parking lot and 5 minutes later I'm smiling.
It works folks. If an idiot like me can do it with an interface that the manufacturer says won't work for my model stereo, then I bet you can too.
When all hooked up, push the CD button to toggle between the in dash CD and "CD1" which could be used to run an external CD changer. Track1/CD6 is aux1 inputs on the USA Spec box, and Track2/CD6 is aux2 inputs. It now plays anything I want through the aux inputs, and the internal 6 cd changer works just fine.
I'm still not sure where I'll end up mounting the aux box because I want it accessible to plug things in. I'm leaning towards the side of the glove box.
Can you post a photo and/or link to this animal? Would it be possible to run an extension cord type of thing so the box could be hidden and the input jack mounted on the dash under the HVAC controls?
Thanks for the info.
thanks jlambeth1 for the pics. um... is there one that has an ipod interface where it can charge up the ipod?
my 07 matrix is obviously CDN and has the single in-dash mp3 cd player... i haven't taken out the deck but supposedly my friend said most decks have an AUX in in the back...does anyone have this kind of deck? vbmenu_register("postmenu_1550983", true);
It's pretty small in size, and the cable you see coming in from the right is about 3-4 feet long so it gives you pretty good flexibility as to where to mount the box after plugging it into the HU. The size of the normal RCA jacks on the left side of the pic give you an idea of the size of the box. It's small!
Here's a link on a couple places to buy it on-line.
anyhow... my matrix's mp3 cd deck has this circle thing to the right of the CD slot... anyone know what it is? it seems like it is a cover and it can move. too bad it's in so deep that it's hard to pry out. i wonder if that is a 3.5mm AUX jack... ???
btw... anyone have the same deck as mine? there is a model #31813 i think on the top middle...
i guess if it is not an AUX input... i'll go ahead w/ the usa spec AUX interface next time i hit up the US...

This is on a 2007 with the in-dash 6 CD changer, right? The number on the front of mine is A51817. What exactly did you "plug in" to? Did you have to unplug the 6 CD changer? Lots of confusing answers on the web about connecting an iPod to a 2007 Matrix with the in-dash 6CD changer. Would REALLY appreciate a straight, detailed answer as it looks like you've done what "...can't be done...". Congratulations!!!!
I'm assuming that everything is controlled from the iPod still and that you need to keep it charged - your solution is just for audio, correct?
Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope...
