rough gear shifting

This is my first post. I just my got Matrix XR last week. I love the car except for the gear shifting. It makes a popping noise when i switch gears. Are any of owner out there experiencing the same thing? I had my old Civic for years and it seem to have a smoother gear box than my Matrix. Please help. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing happens to me too (I have the 6 speed) and a lot of others. Mostly on 2nd to 3rd shifts for me. Happens sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.

My 6-speed wasn't too bad from new but it wasn't the smoothest. After about 5000km it broke in pretty good. You can just pull the shift boot back from the consol to see how much plastic is in there.

I was hoping the shortshift kit would cure this. I didn't bother as it just shortens the throws. It doesn't replace to many parts.
