Tires

I would like to hear if anyone has any input on this. I was snooping around discount tire direct the other day and on there they show alternate tire sizes for OEM wheels. For the 17" OEM on the Matrix they show 225 45 17" and 235 45 17". After doing some quick math, it seems that the 235 45 would be the closest to the circumfrence of the original 215 50. They say they would fit, but I wouldn't mind hearing from someone else, since I have never seen that size mentioned in this forum.
Does anyone have the 235 45 on their OEM 17"s?

When I killed my stock 215/50's, I bought 225/45's. At the time of purchase, I actually inquired about using 235/45's as well. The shop manager said that technically it would fit but was against it because that size is recommended for rims for at least 7.5" wide. OEM 17's are 7" wide. He then showed me tire size charts to back up his argument. If you also check online, you'll see the same thing.

I have run into the same problem with the 0+ to a 235-45-17. Everyone I spoke with has recommended against it. There are a few people who run that size on a 7" rim without problems but I don't know if I can bring myself to trust it. I'm goingto stick with OEM or 225-45-17. But, you are correct. The 235-45 is actually the correct 0+ size for speedometer calibration.

Thanks for the info fellas. I was thinking about the rim width.....not good idea to push convention. I would rather err on the side of caution on something as inmportant as tires. 235s would have been cool though.
Thanks again.

Right now I'm looking at the Yokohama AVID V4S, and maybe the Kumho Solus KH16. It's difficult because you may read "the best tire I've ever owned" and go down a review and it says "the worst tire I've ever owed". To me it all seems relative to the user.
