87 Octane in an XRS

My dad was trying to be nice by filling up my gas tank last night. The only problem is he put Regular 87 ocatane in it. Im worried. Is it safe to drive? i put a bottle of actane booster in and I havent driven past 4k RPM.

What do you usually put in it?

I had a car years ago in which I used 93 octane and it cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars to try and find out what waswrong with it. I was told the 93 octane had clouded up my spark plugs and filled them with deposits. They were a mess. When I sent one back to Aamco who I bought the gas from, they said "I''ve never seen anything like this before."

Simply because 2ZZ-GE has a compression ratio of 11:5:1 and the user manual (and fuel lid) says "use octane 91 or higher".

The manual recommends 91 or higher, as was stated. A brief use of 87 or 89 won't hurt anything. The ECU (knock sensors) adjusts for the lower octane. It isn't recommended to continue to run the 87 as this will affect performance and fuel mileage. You're safe.
