Transferring GPS Nav system

I just bought a replacement for a 2003 XRS, totalled in an accident. I really liked the car so I bought another one, exact same year and model, but the replacment has the standard am/fm/CD instead of the Nav receiver and separate 6-CD changer.

The question is, anyone know how hard would it be to transfer the old Nav receiver and CD changer into the replacement car? The service guys at the dealer can't say for sure, they say the Nav wasn't an "option" in the conventional sense, but that the car had to be ordered from the factory with the Nav, so they think a whole different wiring harness may be required. I'm doubtful about that, I'd think they'd keep the harness modular, with something "extra" needed perhaps, but not needing a completely different harness. I've looked at the service manual available online, and it isn't completely clear on this either.

Anyone actually done this, or know for sure if it's practical? (Incidentally, the insurance company will deduct $1400 from my settlement if I remove the Nav system from the old vehicle, which sounds high, but it is a pretty nice system and I don't know how else I'd replace it. But obviously I don't want to do this if I'm not going to be able to make it work in the new car.)

Pose your question to the experts at Crutchfield. They will know if you need additional wiring harnesses and can possibly provide them for you.

Thanks for the idea... I checked Crutchfield out online, then called up and talked to one of their reps for awhile. He was very friendly but couldn't tell me anything about factory systems, he could only advise on which of their products would be best for the replacement car.

It's beginning to appear that $1400 is a lot to pay for a 4-year old system with an effectively out of date map disc -- especially in light of the fact that I can't find anyone who can assure me the unit can be transferred without an unreasonable amount of work. I've just about concluded I'm better off getting a new one.
