Picking up an 04 XR AWD

Hey all, just here to introduce myself. My name is Michael and I am about to be the proud owner of an 04 XR AWD. I am coming from a very tight knit community of Volkswagen owners and Ihope that the Toyota forums will be just as helpful as the VW forums have been over the past 2+ years. I'll post pics of the car when I pic it up.

I was wondering though, has anyone installed yellow fog lights (bulbs or lenses) in their Matrix? I searched but came up with nothing. Let me know if it is doable. Thanks!

I have on 06 trix XR and i have installed the yellow bulbs as fog lights and i liked them alot, I would go with the plastic film you put over the lense to make it yellow, it will eventually waste away and you fog lights were be permantly ruined. either convert the entire lense or go with the bulbs

Thanks, but your reply is somewhat confusing. You say you would go with the yellow film (Lamin-x) but that it will eventually waste away. I think you meant to say that you wouldn't go with that film. Not a big deal.

What bulbs did you go with? I was looking and found some nice PIAA 9006 bulbs. Let me know, thanks!

Yeah sorry i meant dont go with the film. the heat from the bulb ruins them and fades them out and then you fog lights look horrible. sorry about the type-o. yeah the piaa are nice i really liked them, those are the ones i had. i also did an hid conversion 8000k to my headlights, and i loved the look of the yellow against the hid headlights. something to think about.

Cool, thanks. So do their yellow bulbs emit a solid yellow color, or are they just a faint yellow? I am coming off a car that had these:

PIAA Ion Crystal H3's on my 280 whp Jetta.

The are definitely a solid yellow, but the h3 bulb produces a stronger beam then the 9006 so it wont look exactly like that but yes its a strong solid yellow

Just curious ...

You say you have an '06 XR and I see in the Owner's Manual (I have an '06, as well) it says that the fog light bulbs are not user serviceable.

What's with that?

I admit that I haven't got underneath to check this out. I'd like to hear your comments on replacing these bulbs on an '06. Is it just a question of replacing the bulb, or are there other issues to consider?

I ask because I'd like some yellow bulbs for my foggies.

Thanks,
-- Bill

its really easy to change the bulbs just get on your back and get under the front bumper, adn twist the socket in which the bolbs connect to and pull out that it, there is plenty of room by the fog light to easily get you hand in there and switch them out. easy as pie take about 60 secs.

So I went back up to the dealer tonight to take my fiance out for a drive in the new whip. She loves it, definitely a plus.

Anyway, I had to fill it up with gas before we took our test drive. When I filled it up the needle went up to about 3/4 full. By the time we got back to the dealer it was at about 1/2. So is it just bad on gas or are the gauges not all that accurate?

What do you guys typically get for mileage?

I also put premium in my XR i know we dont have to its a requirement for the XRS but there is a difference in mileage when you drive hard, i also use amsoil synthetic so that might help me also. but i mean you could be getting bad gas mileage from a ditry air filter or gas that has been sitting in the tank for a while, old gas mixed with new gas is still bad gas. so that may be it,

Well, I picked up the car yesterday and all I can say is wow. I am just extremely satisfied with every little thing about the car. And for an AWD car putting down only 100awhp, I was quite impressed with the get-up-and-go it has. Quite frankly I found myself comparing it to my mother's 03 Forester, and well, really there are no comparisons. She got in and took it for a ride and loved it too. I am converting her over.

We are supposed to be getting 2" to 4" of snow tonight/tomorrow so I really get to put the AWD to the test. I am looking forward to seeing how it holds up. For now, I only have 1 pic of it, I'll have more to come later. The car is seriously in immaculate condition.
