Canada Front Bumper Skirt CRACKED!!

So I went to wash my 2006 XRS about a week or so ago...and the reason I did this was the weather had been warm and it was about to turn cold...so I was being pro-active to get the car cleaned up and enjoy how good it looks clean while the weather was cold...Anyway the day after I had washed it I walked into my garage (which isn't heated) and I noticed a black line on the right corner of the front bumper on the "skirt" that the XRS has...so as I got down and looked at it....the skirt was cracked...about 4 or 5 inch long crack...there isn't any damager or paint scrapping that would normally appear if I had hit something...which I know I didn't. It wasn't there the day I washed the car as I always wash the underbody of the car with the high pressure wand at the car wash...Anyway has this happened to anyone before? Ever heard of it? Any suggestions about approaching my dealership about this?

Thanks for your help as always!!

No I don't think it was the pressure washer at the car wash...I think there may have been a bit of water on the inside of the skirt that when the water froze, cracked it.

I never put the pressure washer nozzle close to the body of the car...I always stand a good distance away...

It's all one piece on the 05+. I have the exact same crack in the exact same spot on my 05 XRS. It happened the first winter I had it, fell into a rut and the bumper hit the ice and cracked. When I had the bumper off to install the CAI, I duct taped it together from the under side. You can barely tell the crack is there now and it's held up for 2 years. So ya duct tape!

I had this hapenned often to my 2003 xrs. What I suggest you do is take off the front skirts and bring it to a bodyman who will heat it up to bond the plastic back together and repaint the whole skirt to match the paint color and all. They do this kind of stuff just about every week with many other cars. This should cost you about $150. CDN. Good luck!

So do you folks figure Toyota will tell me to go to hell if I ask them to repair it? The car is still in the first year warranty...I mean it is obvious it cracked on it's own...there is zero damage to it...I know $150 isn't alot of cash..but if it is a defective thing...isn't it Toyota's responsibility?

Just wondering...

You're going to have a tough time proving it's "defective". It's winter. Frozen snowbanks everywhere. Their bodyshop must see dozens of cracked bumpers. They'll probably think that's what you did despite 'zero damage'. But hey, give it a shot and ask.

My 2005 XRS has the same crack -- I had assumed that I must have caught it on a parking block or something, but based on what the rest of you are saying, I'm not so sure.

I think it would be a very tough road to get Toyota to pay for it.

Well today I noticed that my fog light on the opposite side of the cracked skirt is cracked! I felt with the tip of my finger to see if there is a chip of some sort and it felt smooth. I have a maintenance appointment tomorrow so I will be bringing up these issues with the dealership.
