Could be part time 4wd!
Or is the 4wd matrix full time 4wd like the CRV.

The CRV is not full time AWD. Honda calls it Real Time 4WD (RT4WD). I've had both a gen 1 and now a gen 2 CRV. The rears only kick in if and when one of the front wheels spins at a different speed than the rears. As soon as they are at equal speeds, the FWD continues all by itself. I imagine the Matrix system is probably similar. I don't think you'd ever experienece this difference in wheel speed at higher speeds than say 50 MPH, but I'm no expert on that.

Ah...that's right, Real time 4WD.
