actually the 2002 models of the GT-S have a 7800 rpm redline while the earlier models have a 8400 ecu cut off.

Yeah I know the car has an ~8300 rpm fuel cut off, but my point was that the 'offical' listing of 7800 rpm instead of the Matrix's 8100 is puzzling because:

1. It has hurt the GT-S' ratings with jounalists who do acceleration testing and shift at redline only
2. The engine is so rev happy and strong that I simply do not understand why Toyota two mechanically identical engines would have different redlines.

Anyone have a 2002 GT-S? What's the fuel cut off and redline?

Anyway, I'm just being picky cuz I own the car myself =)
I rev the car to 8100 all the time anyway =̃

On the topic of the Matrix XRS w/ 2ZZ-GE engine...I wanted to clear something up.

According to the SCC review article, it said they tested the Matrix XRS: 0 to 60 mph in 8.9 seconds.

Now is it possible that it is that bad? This is the 180 hp engine they are talking about here? Not the 130 hp one?

If the Celica GT-S has a 0-60 time in the 6.? range, how can a Matrix, which is slightly bigger, etc... TAKE 3 seconds longer?!

Ooops I think the link is broken or their web server is down. Yes it's possible, and true. A combination of weight (a BIG factor) and taller 17" (and heavier) rim/tire combo give the bad times. And gear ratios make a big difference, don't know if they are the same on both cars.

Crap, if the Matrix XRS w/ 2ZZ-GE engine has a 0-60 mph time of 8.9 seconds...
then I guess there goes my plans for that car...

Im used to driving my 4 cyl Cam, and when I drive my dads 95 Maxima, the power is sweet... and the 0-60 time of 7.2? seconds is nice. 0- 60mph (100 kmh) power is all I need for local roads.

Those guys don't know how to drive. I bet they also looked down at the shifter and move the shifter like they're trying to break it like they do in those Japanese videos. In the article it says that they didn't know how to launch it. And the car only took 5 more ft to go to 60 than the Celica. So they ran their Celica 0-60 in what, 8.8 seconds?

2800lbs is light. It should be faster than a Camry v6 5 speed.

well, if I cant beat a 16 year old girl in a pontiac (yes, they are pretty fast) at a traffic light....forget the Matrix XRS!

I dunno how true those numbers are...but recently it was either motor trend or car & driver that tested the Vibe GT (Pontiac's version) with the 6spd and was able to obtain 0-60 7.3 seconds. Go figure?

WTF?
7.....seconds?

I did see in a car mag they clocked the Vibe 180 hp engine at around 8.1
which is better than 8.9 (matrix xrs)

oh well, only test drive will tell.

If you've ever seen mag times for the Celica GTS, you'd notice that the high and low numbers are off by a second or more. I saw a GTS at Palmdale that couldn't break 16's. You just gotta learn how to drive this car.
