MAINT REQD light

Hi all. Over the weekend I noticed a light came on in my '06 Matrix XR stating "MAINT REQD". I looked up the warning light in the manual that came with the car, and it says that is an indicator that my oil needs to be changed and the light should be reset by holding the odometer reset button before starting up the car.

Now, I just had the oil changed 3 weeks ago, so I am not sure why it would need to be changed again so soon. Also, I followed the instructions in the book to reset the warning light, but it's not working. It says to turn the key to the Acc. position, hold the odometer reset button, and then start up the car. However, the light never turns off. Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks.

Did you do it this way:

1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" or "LOCK" position with the odometer reading showing. (not trip A or trip B)

2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset knob.

The odometer will display 000000 then some dashes, the light will go off once your odometer shows this.

In the manual on page 115 of the 05 matrix xr

It's possible that the place that changed your oil didn't reset the "maintenance required" indicator, so that could be why it's coming on now. That's happened to me before.

Hi guys. I followed your instructions (also found the instructions in my manual), but it does not appear to be resetting the MAINT REQD light. The manual says that the odometer should blink or something when I turn on the car and hold that reset button, but I never see the odometer change at all. When I let go of the button, it goes from the odometer to the TRIP A meter. Weird. Any other advice? Thanks!
