That darned MAINT REQD light!

Just a quick question here. Does anyone really pay attention to that light if you do your regular oil changes yourself, or is there really a reason to pay attention to it as long as you keep after your car and the upkeep?

The light came on agin and I shut it off via the tips I found in here, but should I ever take the car into the shop, or is that just giving them an opportunity to lighten my wallet?

I just reset the stupid light when it begins to flash often...I maintain my XRS anally. I guess the idiot light is for people who don't care about their cars, or the maintenance. Some people don't deserve the priveledge to drive cars or own pets.

just change and rotate your tires ever 5k.. and follow the owners manual. the maint light comes on ever 5000 miles the minute its reset .. if u go of the 5k rule.. every time u get 5k 10k 15k 20k 25k and so on.. you can never forget..

i done oil changes on toyotas at 3k before it .. i have to say.. it comes out pretty damn clean.. so i would follow the 5k rule.. but thats me..

even my S has a new maint deal.. where it goes of how you drive.. so if i vtec it everyday.. than im pretty sure i will be changing my oil ever 3k.. but since i drive it pretty evenly.. its been around 5k- 6k miles before i change my oil..

Mine lights up only when its time for an oil change. After the oil change I ask the mechanic to turn it off and he does.
