I installed a Cosmo Cold Air Intake on my 2007 Matrix XR and have driven it for about 5 days. It continues to have various acceleration issues. Sometimes I can floor it from a dead stop and it accelerates smoothly, other times it will start sputtering at around 3000 RPM's. I then have to back off the throttle and gently get it up to and over 3000 RPM's and then I can floor it again with no problem. It will die about 25% of the time when I come to a complete stop. I searched around this and other forums and have not found any answers that seem to address my problem. I think the MAF is fine since I can get it over 3000 RPM's sometimes. Am I just being impatient and should I give the computer more time to adjust to the new intake? Also, does anyone have detailed instructions on the installation of the Cosmo Cold Air Intake for my XR? Mine did not come with instructions but I had a knowledgeable friend help with the install so I am fairly confident that it is installed properly. I was under the impression that this was a simple bolt on upgrade that would not need any tuning. If I am wrong and will need to do alot of tuning to get it working correctly, I will just take it off but I would love to get it working.
Sorry I can't help you. I had problems hooking up (actually removing most) of the vacuum lines. The peeps on MO helped me out. I never had any of the issues you're describing. Obviously something is wrong. I'd be sure you get the vacuum lines sorted out. Cosmo didn't explain it in their installation instructions either. I'd suggest you search the topic on MO and try to find the vacuum line set up for an 05+ base engine.
Ya there's definetely something wrong. I have a injen intake made for an 03-04 on my 07 and I don't have any of the problems you're referring to. I can't see it being vacuum lines because there's really only one that comes off the valve cover to the main pipe. If it's sending off a check engine light you could get the code read.
Yeah the check engine light has been on since the install. I figured I would reset it after a week or so of driving because I have been assuming that the computer would sync up by then and that after resetting it everything would be good. I'll take it by Autozone tomorrow to see what the code comes back as. I have been to the MO site but ran into one rude person which made me come back to this site as everyone here seems to be more helpful and not nearly as rude.
Well I know your computer would only need 3 or 4 restarts to figure things out, your problem is more than that. I can tell you one thing that might make sense now that I think about it some more though. I know with my intake setup, the fit wasn't perfect and it seemed like a really was very close to touching things until I turned it and bolted it down in the exact right place. If your main pipe is vibrating against something, I could see your knock sensor picking up the vibration and knocking your timing back, and that would account for the sputtering. Maybe try to turn the pipe by 5 or 10 degrees one way or another to make sure it isn't making contact with the inner fender or the radiator support. I would also say that maybe you're running into some kind of fuel issue where your computer is telling the injectors to cut fuel. Maybe something got damaged with the install?
Thanks for the advice adamderry. I am pretty confident that nothing got damaged during the install. I did find that we did not bolt it down, though. I sure hope your theory on it moving around is right. I have now bolted it down and it does not appear to be touching anything. I will drive it tomorrow morning and see how it performs.
Well adamderry, I am not thworing a party yet, but my 20+ mile drive to work this morning was the best I have had since installing the CAI. It ran great with no stalling or hiccups of any kind. Being the noob that I am at modding a car, I never realized that something so simple as not bolting it down could throw the knock sensor for such a loop. I sure hope it continues to run smoothly. The last question would be the check engine light. It is still on and I was wondering if there is any way for me to reset it? Or will it eventually go off by itself?
Well I do know that on the matrix if you don't tighten the fuel cap down the engine light will come on, and then after however many start-ups it will reset itself, so I don't think you'll need to reset it manually. Apparently, you can't predict how many start-ups the car will need to determine that the problem has gone away, it could be 1, it could 20, so just drive it as is for a week or so and it should shut off. That's good news that it's not stalling anymore though, hopefully it keeps it up.
Thanks for the picture to compare mine to. From what I can see, mine is installed the same way. I reset my cel and I have driven it approximately 75 miles without it coming back on.
I was thinking about buying an iceman cold air intake for my Matrix. it has a 3.1 ltr V6. I was looking on ebay, and there are lots of different kits I can buy from 10 dollars to 100. how cheap is too cheap? i don't wanna buy a piece of crap, but I also don't wanna pay an arm and a leg for a kit when a lesser one will do just as good of a job.

v6 matrix? <<---- good shit huh?
any intake system works the same. maybe a stock airbox with k&n filter works better. just get a generic cold air intake pipe and HKS or Blitz filter. then ur set....
