XRS what a day

Hey guys i just thought i would share some of my misfortunes with you. I am driving down the GSP towards atlantic city in the other day in my now 2 month old (atleast to me) matrix Xrs and the check engine lite pops its ugly face out. Now i had just fueled up so i thought the jerkoff working the pumps didnt tighten the cap so i pulled over to check the cap tight as could be. So when i finally got the Tropicana i pulled out my Analyzer and pulled the codes and the car read Catalyst effciency bellow threshold bank 1. i called my mechanic and he said to me win big money today because you need a cat. I brought the car to the dealer today and ofcourse i need a new cat, o2 sensor, evap sensor and serp belt had a crack. Now my XRS is an 03 with 77,000 and i i just made the warenty for the cat and the sensors were "on the house" all i paid for was the belt. can anyone tell me why a cat on this car would go already under 80K?

Good stuff. Good to know the issue got resolved. Got to love Toyota dealerships. Most of them are extremely flexible with warranty work (even if it is not covered and the customer is supposed to pay for it).

The only reason I can see the cat going is putting bad fuel in the car?

Maybe the original owner used regular gas instead of the premium?

If it's an emission item that fails (like a cat) the warranty is covered for 8yrs or 80,000miles

it does!! But with emission items like cat(s), 02 sensors, EGR valve, etc, etc.. These parts are covered under a different warranty that is 8yrs or 80,000miles. Not many people know about this, which benefits the dealerships who will take advantage of owners not knowing about this hidden warranty.

yea well the dealer tryed to pull that shit with me too saying they were not covered so i pulled out the owners manuel and slapped it in their faces, so i got about 1800$ worth of work done for nothing. And there was a mass amount of carbon built up in the old cat, the cause, shit gas and never cleaning the injectors, i hate original owners that are stupid!!!!!

That's for a 1zz engine. The XRS has the 2zz high compression engine that requires a minimun 91 octane or higher gas. I've recently discovered that using 94 octane makes my car run much smoother, much quieter and much more responsive and peppy. Regular gas in an XRS is BAD!

Yep. I only use Octane 94 performance-plus from Husky gas station. It runs much smoother and is more rev-happy.

Its a possibility that the previous owner used some fuel additive that could contain a lead substitute, or even xylene, as an octane booster...just a thought.
