startup idle speed???

I have an 03 matrix regular engine and automatic...my question...when I start it it IDLES VERY FAST!! it runs at like 2k for about 10 seconds,,,then at 1.6k for the first 3-4 minutes before SLOWLY slowing down to about 700 RPM after about 6 minutes...is this normal for the matrix...ive never driven another before, and it seems kinda annoying

My XRS does pretty similar to that too. From what I have found, Toyota likes to set up their cars to do that.

i have an '07 matrix, base model, auto.

I live in southern california (never gets cold)

i don't time it, but it usually goes to about 1.8......then slowly back down.

so i usually warm up the car about 1 min before i start taking it out.

but it's fine, i guess.

my only has a bit over 1.8k miles on it.

Hi! I'm from BELARUS, using Matrix for 3 month, and i have a problem wiht my idle speed. When the engine is hot, sometimes, for few seconds engine speed increas to 1100RPM and after that slow to normal speed 800RPM. Please, help me find a reason.

are you running auxiliary things, such as the fan, air conditioning or things like that when it revs up? it could be that it revs up that little bit briefly to accommodate the extra draw from those things on the motor. also it could be that something is using extra power (electricity) and so the alternator has to get a little more from the motor, so it revs the motor. it could also be the engine cooling fans needing power, just like the accessories listed above, and it thus revs for those.

on the other hand, it could be an exhaust leak, so it will bounce back and forth on the revving, where it will go high, then drop back down with about 2-3 seconds on each one.

how often does it rev up, and how long does the higher rev last for? do you hear any other noises when it revs up, and if so, can you describe them here?

This higher rev not depends from my aux units. it's may be twice per 1 minute or only 3 times per day, and it's last not more then 1 second, and i never hear any noises only sound of ventilator for 1-2 sec.
