Matrix AWD Transmission Question

Do the AWD models use the 1ZZ-FE engine? If they do, will the E153 AWD Celica All-trac (GT-Four) transmission bolt up to it?

It may seem like a stupid question to most people but I am wondering because I love the Matrix and would like to have one with AWD but be manual, not automatic.

4WD = 1zz.
It's been talked about alot, about switching transmission for the the 4WD, but like all projects, this requires lots of money.

It's not a stupid question but to answer it would be to know if someone's ever done it. You should probably ask around the Celica forums cuz there's more cases of tranny/engine swaps on their end than in the Matrix world.

If it helps your quest any, the 2WD uses the A246E tranny (common in Corollas) and the 4WD uses the U341F (common in Celicas).

Thanks for those tranny codes, that does help a bit. I actually own an MR2 (as indicated by the name) and know very little about the Spyder which shares the 1ZZ engine, but know a lot about the 3SGTE and it's E153 transmission.

Hopefully I can find an answer to this. In a worst case scenario, I'm wondering if it would be easier just to swap the sturdy iron 3SGTE in there. Oh well, thanks!
