manual tranny cost =??

i,m considering buying a 2003 base model . it has 98,000 miles . the owner says it needs a transmission. are used trannys readily available and what,s the usual labor cost to have it installed? thanks.

its missing? well call up a transmission shop, they could quote you a price. but it should be around 1000 dollars depending where you are and the availability of the transmission

consider also that to have a dealership service department will cost about $1200+ to get the tranny installed, and a decent shop, even a tranny shop will cost you about $900 minimum, and that is likely to be if you have friends in there. look to add another $1000 to the cost of the car for the installation on top of the cost of the transmission itself, which would probably cost $500-800, plus the hassle of having to go through all this mess.

just me, but even for the cheap cost, i would pass. if it needs a new transmission after only 98,000, then the car has probably been well beaten, because toyota has been known for putting long lasting equipment into their cars, especially carollas, and this is carolla equipment.

Buy it with a used car warranty that covers transmissions. You might pay the price or even more of the tranny, but you'll have the piece of mind if anything else comes up.
