New '08 Matrix XR owner!!!

Well, the price of gas and the 135 mile daily commute finally got to me and I had to dump my '05 Tacoma TRD. Really loved that truck but 18-19 mph just doesn't cut it.

Soooo, I am now a new member of the Matrix club. I got the manual shift cause I just can't deal with an auto tranny on small 4 bangers. I'm impressed with the ride and handling for a small entry level car.

Are there any issues popping up on these that seem to be a regular problem?

Congrats! Me too, since yesterday! I was driving a 4 runner and with the gas prices nowadays and the way I drive, I was asking for my wallet to shrink! Anyways, I am loving the way the matrix drives, it is very peppy all the while smooth and responsive! I am more of an auto tran fan, but hey to each his own... but I am looking to do some upgrades to the exterior and more if to maybe help mpg... lemme know if there are any suggestions for an auto 4 banger xr 1.8. thanks!

Well, after a couple of weeks driving the trix, I'm really impressed. It handles well and rides quiet. I am glad that I got the man tranny instead of the auto though.

The best mileage I've gotten so far is 36 mpg which was 75% highway, 25% city. The worst was 30 mpg about 80% city, 20% highway. Sure beats the mileage I was getting with the tacoma.

My wife and I had a 06' Matrix base model stick shift w/ pwr package. It was a great car, we averaged in the ball park of 34 mpg... 80% highway(best was 41 though 50 mph for 6 hours.) No issues whatsoever. Be aware though, that engine takes 5W20 motor oil. We put 5W30 in there once and the mileage dipped to about 31. I hope you enjoy your Matrix, it is a great car!

my manual says 5W30, never heard of anyone using 5W20 in a Matrix.

do you have the 1zz or the 2zz motor? the 2zz specifically says on the motor itself to use 5w30.

You're right. I really enjoy driving this car. I think the manual tranny helps, plus it's nice not having to fill the tank every 2 days!!!
