cold air intake

I drive an '03 XRS. Does anyone have experience for the add-on cold air intake systems? Easy to install? Increase in horsepower. Noisier?

I see them on the TRD site for around $250.00 and also on eBay for $50.

cold air intake can help you to gain around 5 hp, but you also have to have the chip reprogrammed a bit to know it has the CAI. i also have an 03 xrs and i am looking into getting a CAI as well. to install it looks pretty easy, and i am not much of the type to know what i am doing inside a car.

as for the difference between CAIs, they are all essentially the same thing and will all hook up in about the same way. it is a pipe with a filter on one end of it. it would be good to have a spot already built into it to mount on the mass air flow sensor. the trd cai has that spot, but they are also selling the TRD name with it.

I think he means the ECU needs to be reset. Make sure to unplug the negative to the battery.
2 reasons:

1) To keep the MAF safe.
2) The ECU will reset to learn the new airflow from the CAI. Most would suggest to let the car idle for 10-15 minutes before driving off.

Good luck!

cai or sri is easily the best mod you can do to start off. get a cheapy ebay short ram intake and throw a k&n cone filter on it.....youll be under 100$ and youll gain close to 10whp and 7wtq.

itll be louder, sure, but speed takes balls.

I installed a K&N Typhoon Short Ram on my '03 Xrs. Definitely big difference, awesome sound out of the engine and better mileage!!!!!! Do it right, don't go cheap! It could damage other components, specially with cheaper non Dyno Proven CAI Systems! Asides from it, it looks so good under the hood!
