These cars are two totally different animals. How can you compare them?

One is naturally aspirated, the other one turbocharged.

The Mazdaspeed3 was introduced in 2007, while 2006 was the last year for the Matrix XRS.

There simply isn't any logical way to.

If you want to compare the Matrix to the old Protege5 or the first few years of the Mazda3, then there may be some debate possible.

I mean, does anyone have an opinion as to which one would be a "better buy"??? I realize that they may be different but if it makes you feel better, then ok, compare the mazda 3 and the XRS.... please, I'm just looking for opinions here... thanks brosef...

the xrs is a better buy. you still get ample performance from it, though not as much as the turbo 3. either one is designed to run on high octane fuel (92 or higher). the xrs will get better gas mileage on a regular basis, and the car will cost less (unless the mazda was beat to hell and is being sold to you like that). under the same driving conditions, the xrs will last longer. a turbo will eventually burn out, and when it does, the car runs like shit until it is replaced, and replacing a turbo can be very costly ($1000+ is the low end of turbo replacement).

a turboed car will also run insurance higher in most cases than a naturally aspirated car. my insurance company, when i first put my xrs on, saw it as a carolla, a small car with low maintenance requirements.

i have a 2003 xrs myself, and i rather enjoy it. there is something to be said about revving up to 8200 rpm, and it has a nice kick at 6200 rpm. i love lift. also, the 2zz motor can be turboed and put out quite nicely, or so i have heard.

MazdaSpeed3 is way more money than the Matrix, and its a lot faster. I personally like naturally aspirated engines more than turboed engines. As the previous person mentioned, turbos do eventually have bearing problems, but if you can afford a minimum of $23 grand for a car, then replacing the turbo someday should not be an issue. I spent $19 grand on my XRS, and I thought that was expensive...but Im happy with the car and the fun factor.

had a couple friends that own a Mazda 3 and they like my matrix better... it's much more roomier and can fit more things when you are moving.... the 3 is nice and all... but I think Toyotas are more reliable.. as for the speed series.. I only tried the Speed6.. nice car... FAST... but high pricetag... but we chose the Lexus IS250 over that... it was the same price... as for the speed3 i heard the first batch had engine mount problems.... there was a recall on it if I remember correctly....

yeah my coworker just got a preowned Mazdaspeed 3... I have an '05 XRS, and to tell you the truth. I prefer my ride. he's constatntly taking it in for some kind of service due to recall, or some modification about the trubo thing... my trix just keeps on keeping on... Then again, I'm probably much more practical than he is. he's all about telling people how much money he's making /spending.... yeah crazy huh! "Hey man let me tell you much I spent on this" It's gets old really quick... I'm still digging my trix especially for the money and the reliability that Toyota offers.
