Poor AWD performance

I feel like my awd system does not work well. I know tires are important but I was in my driveway the other day and the front tires were slipping and the back tires didn't even move. I'm wondering if the differential is working when under power. It moves 3 or 4 wheels when up on a lift but on the ground I fell like the back wheels never move. I struggle to get up my hill in the winter time. I expected more from and awd.

Takes a little more than driving in your driveway to get the 4WD to engage. I've had no problems with mine at all. I don't expect much from the 4WD but it gets me out of the jams others have been on this winter.

Take a look at the differential fluids. Some say it will help to get those changed.

ok heres the thing. the awd system on the matrix's, rav's and highlanders. operate the same way. the rear tires only turn when it doesnt have traction. its not a full time AWD. its actually a viscous type awd system.
