Rear Suspension Prob... please Help

my Matrix XR underwent an 50,000 mile inspection and it says "Passenger rear knuckle, lower control arm linkage has excessive play and making noise".

It'd be no problem if i listened to the technician and repair it right away. but the cost was almost $1300. it gets me really hesitating.
I want to know what problems this can cause to me. Does this a big threat to my safe drive?

your help will be appreciated

I haven't heard of that problem over at matrixowners. Has the car ever been in an accident?
If I were you, I'd get a second opinion, it wouldn't hurt.

As BC Toy states get a second opinion. If you can, ask the mechanic to point out the problem area to you.

You must have the 4WD. Have you noticed any noise from the rear? You should've asked them exactly what the $1300 entails (what's involved)? If things are just loose, there's no way $1300 justifies that.

In terms of your safety and the problem is there, you handling would be affected.
