2007 M Therory mods

Hey there...

I just bought a 2007 Matrix "M Theory" model with 20,000 KM's on it, and I was wondering if the first owner may have done some tweaking to it. the reviews I read about the model say it "looks nicer then it performs, but mine seems to just fly along...

The problem however is my gas mileage. It is HORRIBLE, about 30 MPG, far from the the 43 the 1.8 L with 4 speed auto should get!

Any help out there or any other way to know what if anything was done to it? Is this a dealer only thing to fix??

the only way any matrix is going to get 43 mpg will be while rolling downhill with a tailwind in neutral the whole way. if you look closely, the part that says the car can get 43 mpg also says it is an EPA estimate. Just because it is a small motor in a not very big car doesnt mean you will get good mileage. it just means that the motor will usually have to work harder to hit higher speeds than a bigger motor would. i would imagine that people driving a 2009 matrix with the 2.4 liter camry motor can probably get about as good as a comparably equipped 03-07 matrix. where the gas mileage will go down for that scenario for the 2.4 liter will be on acceleration, but for highway cruising, they should be just about the same.

I used to have a 93 Nissan Sentra with a 1.8L and a 5 gear and I would regularly get 45 miles per Canadian gallon, even when it had 200,00KM on it.

Even though our gallon is 20% bigger, my local Toyota dealer says a 2008 Matrix with a 1.8 and auto should get at least 40 "in real world driving", and something would have to be wrong with mine for the mileage to be that low

Hi. I've got a 2008 Matrix manual transmission and I'm averaging 35 mpg (Canadian gallon) doing what I would assume is real world driving. 50% city driving and 50% highway driving at 110 to 120 kph. Hope this helps.

By the way, I'm completely satisfied with the 35 mpg.

a gallon should be the same quantity everywhere, but if the canadians want to make a gallon bigger, then so be it.

about it being 20% larger, that means that a gallon of gas here would be 80%, so 80% of 40 mpg would be 32 mpg.

a dealer saying that a car should get whatever gas mileage doest really hold water IMO. dealers will say whatever they can to make a sale, or get you interested to buy from them. awhile back, i was with my girlfriend looking for a car for her, and we came across a mitsu lancer, and the sales guy tried to tell me it got up to 40 mpg, then looked it up and it topped out at about 32 mpg. also, when you get 40 mpg, you are doing highway, not a mix of highway and city driving. no car will be able to get 40 mpg while doing mixed driving except a hybrid.

as for getting that short list of countries to switch over to the US gallon, i have already started and most of them are convinced that i am a demigod, and are all bowing to my every whim....

anyway, the miles per gallon are likely based on whatever is the largest gallon they have access to, so in this case, the british imperial gallon in canadia...yes cuh-nay-dee-uh. based on that comes the estimates. i am guessing that the estimates come from plugging in many different numbers about a particular vehicle into a formula, and it then spits out a number that is the mileage rating.

i also own a 07 matrix m theory. and i dunno how to calculate the mpg but weekly i average to spend 28 bucks for full tank when its 1/4 on the fuel thing. i go to school (20 mins away), work (20 mins away), and go home. and from time to time i go out 4 times a week to exercise (10 mins away). i dunno if it helps so yeah. also i tend to always drive around 70-75mph on the highway.

using your trip odometer (either A or B), divide the miles on that tank of gas by the amount of gas you used to fill up. this gives you your average MPG on that tank of gas. just make sure you reset the trip odometer each time or you won't be using the right numbers for calculations.
