But, basically Toyota Canada (and Toyota in the USA) has "adjusted" the specs of the 2004 Toyota Matrix XRS. Website has been updated, not sure of instore brochures.
I've already called them, and made a stink, but they're unwilling to do anything. Maybe if enough people cause a strink, we can get something done.
A fellow Torontonian w/ an 04 XRS raised enough stink at his dealer and they were able to compensate him. Not exactly sure how but he seems to be happy w/ the result.
Go raise some more stink or threaten to contact the media.
Be honest, I am not a dyno tester. 173 vs 180 doesn't make a different to me. See Mazda's MX-5. Owners were compensated 3 years free maintainese AND CND$1000 rebate.(I think I was a $1000, if I am not wrong)
What Matrix XRS needs is 4WD, is not extra hp at front wheels tho!
most cars on the market are advertise withthe hp to the pulley not to the wheels i am not upset with my car i have a 03 matrix xrs with a aem cold air intake a cat back greedy exhaust aem true power pulley and a vented carbonfiber hood and carbon fiber tails and 18" enkei rims and a racing header i have a gtech contoler and i will let you know the hp in the future when i run it

7hp... good god.. the world is about to end. first off you dont know if thats 180 at the wheels or the crank.. second if you dyno a car more then once over a corse of a couple of days you will get difrent results evry time.. and they will vary a bit. air temp is a big factor.. also theres no laws saying they have to post the exact HP to the T.. hell some places rate them at 190 BHP...

Dead on. I couldn't have said it better myself. You guys have to understand that if you walk onto a Toyota lot that 5 Matrix's sitting all in one line, all the same model, will all make different horsepower. You can even dyno the same car in 3 different places and get 3 different numbers. Zrain made a good point about atmospheric conditions as well. Also, there are way too many factors to get a clear number on any particular vehicle when measuring the output to the wheels.
At any rate, you can always find averages. If Toyota claims 180 and a particular car at one particular dynamometer tested at 173, it'd be safe to say that it's within the 173-180 range.

Yes, the Vibe GT went throught the same changes as the XRS from 03 to 04 (180hp to 173hp).
Pontiac claimed 173hp right away on the 04's. Toyota delayed it a few months and actually advertised it as 180hp in the 04 brochure before changing it to 173hp.
