Infant Car Seats

We are expecting our first baby in a few months and are considering buying a Matrix versus an SUV due to gas mileage and price. Many people have advised us to go for an SUV because it is higher off of the ground and easier to manage the baby in the backseat. Has anyone had experience with managing infant car seats in a Matrix? If so, do you recommend this car, or should we bite the bullet and buy a larger RAV4?

I just switched from a double cab Tacoma to a Matrix. Yes it was easier to lift my boy in and out of the seat in the Tacoma but other than having to bend your knees a bit to get him in the Matrix it's really been a good car so far for the whole famdamily, he still has plenty of room, still plenty of leg room in the front - It seems like I used to hit his head more often when lifting him in and out of the Tacoma

I agreed with jdhog...there is no mistake going with the matrix as a family car. I currently drive a matrix and fitting the rear-facing car seat with two passenger in the back with lots of leg room and comfort and enough cargo space for the stroller is wonderful...you cannot go wrong with the matrix.

When we were in the market for shopping for a car in '05, we came close with a Rav4. The space in the back is smaller and not as comfortable versus the matrix. Also the ride is very shaky in the Rav4 compare to the Matrix smoother ride. I brought along my wife, my brother-in-law and mother-in-law to be the back passenger while I test drove the Rav4 and the matrix. The winner of choice is the matrix

Reason #1 why we bought this car 6 years ago was due to adding a babyseat.
Reason #2 arrived in 2005.
Reason #3 arrived in May 2007.

Well, we also added a minvan to the stable late last year...
