2007 Matrix XR Ignition and Acceleration Problem

I am not autmotively techincally inclined. I know little about the ins and outs of an automobile but I do know symptoms. Been driving for 12 years.

Just today, my wife and I were leaving the shopping center, got in the car, started the car, sat and idled for a minute or 2, car shut off. Took about 5 or 6 more ignition attempts for the car to start. The car would not accelerate at all no matter what the shifter was set at (automatic transmission), and no matter how much I pushed down on the gas pedal. We had to practically crawl all the way home (thankfully only about 2 miles). Now car will not start at all with key or with remote start mechanism.

No symptoms whatsoever.
Just did about 1,200 miles in a 6 day span for a road trip vacation. 80% highway driving.
Fluids are good.
About 1,200 miles late on oil change
Less than 30K miles on car
No other service other than regular oil changes has been performed.

Dealership and service are closed today, but I will be speaking with them early AM tomorrow, Monday July 15.

Any ideas?

when you say you couldn't accelerate, would the car rev up at all, or did it just idle the whole way? my first thought was that a cable may have broken between the gas pedal and the throttlebody, and so pushing on the gas pedal would have just pulled a cable that wasnt connected.

chances are more likely that it is bigger than that. it could be the torque converter has gone bad. you should still be under warranty with your car, so i highly suggest you get it in to the dealer to have them look at it. if they say it is not under warranty, find a local auto shop to fix it for you because the dealer will massively overcharge you.
