Arrow Which muffler??

Hey guys ive been looking for a high flow muffler but i have no idea what to get. i looked all over youtube for sound clips but there not very good and im more conserned with interior noise than exterior. Is there any muffler that you recommend thats very quiet and still gives performance? If anyone has any sound clips from their interior let me hear them. And by the way are the stock mufflers very restrictive?

Most exhausts are going to be noiser because they are higher flow and they don't hit a muffler. As far as I know the stock can is pretty restrictive which is why its so quiet. I don't have any sound clips for you, sorry.

go to your local exhaust/muffler shop and tell them you are looking for something that is higher flow, but not a fartcan and it needs to be quiet. they should be able to help you out to find what you are after better. most people getting a new exhaust or muffler are getting it for the performance aspect, and the extra noise is not so much of a worry.

I checked out magnaflows site again and they claim on a 03 celica gt 1.8 gained a dyno'd 6hp and 5tq. Now is the 1.8 in the celica gt the same as my XR? Would the gains be the same? if so thats a pretty good gain for just exhaust.

i have heard of several people using magnaflow equipment on their matrixes. those are the people who tend to get all new exhaust rather than just the muffler though.

How do you like it? Where you able to notice a difference with it? Hows the interior noise?

Yes, there is a noticeable difference. Then again, I've got an XRS so I can't speak for base/XR owners. It even pulled better in higher gears (5th/6th).

In terms of interior noise, it really depends upon the individual as well as driving conditions. There is a drone cruising at hwy speeds. Some people think it's quiet but then again it's usually the single guys who think that and don't have a wife (or kids) to consider. And some think it's loud. You're best to try to find someone who's got it locally and figure out for yourself.

Does the extra piping really make the difference? I was told the muffler was where the most restriction was..Are you running a cat back? if so did you notice any differences over stock besides noise?

Honestly you wont notice a difference power wise,,,,noise wise you will for sure. Most aftermarket exhaust for the MOST part only allows somewhat more airflow, but that is ONLY important at peak power or high RPM, which you rarely use. For the several hundred dollars you will spend sometimes having it installed etc, it will only make a few hp and only when revved up, so to me its pointless in this car. Some older american V-8 cars....WILL take advantage as their exhaust is UNDERSIZED by design, and aftermarket intake and exhaust TRULY opens up the airflow in and out. MOST toyotas and 4 cylinders in general have a larger intake and exhaust in PROPORTION to their actual engine size, compared to a larger V-8 engine, so there is NOT ROOM for much improvement.

when i had my XRS i put on a magnaflow catback and immediately noticed an increase and midrange power....from 3-6k rpms....

the muffler on the matrix isnt THAT restrictive as it goes from one end to the other. but going from 2" to 2.25" made a BIG difference.....well worth the money.....

from what ive heard from ppl who just got axlebacks is that it made NO difference on the butt dyno like a catback does

Alright so the stock piping is just 2".Does their kit bolt up to the cat or is their welding?? What about interior noise
