Question VIN programming/theft lock on headunit

Hi Everyone. First time posting. I did a search and found a bit of info but had more quesstions.

I have an 03 Matrix XR. A Friend gave me his monsoon Headunit from his 2004 Grand Am GT.

Physically, they appear to look the exact same and from my searching I have discovered that the 03-04 HU's in the matrix contain the same GM wiring. I also discovered that The AC Delco radios in the 03 and 04 Matrix’s don't have Theftlock on them the way they do in the GM cars. Is this true? What is the purpose of the flashing red light on the headunit in the Matrix??

I know the Delco HU's in GM cars are VIN locked from 2000 and up. If I have this headunit unlocked, will I be able to install it in my Mtrix? Are our Headunits vin locked?

Also, someone with a corrola told me if I were to unlplug my headunit or disconnect my battery...then the radio will lock up and I will need a code to unlock it. Is that just BS or is this a fact?

Lastly, the HU in the GrandAM was for the upgraded Monsoon system. Do you think this would make any diff? I know I won't get all my questions answered but any help or info is much appreciated. Thnx everyone in advance.

There is a vin theft lock on the ac delco headunits. The only way to unlock it is to take it to the dealer and have them vin match the unit with your car. VIN matching was created because of all those headunits that required a code after the battery was disconnected. The HU is mated to the car so it will only with with that car. Pretty slick IMO
