13,433 Km 8,347 Mile Trip WARNING 56K Killer

Yes that is right 13,433 Km 8,347 Mile trip in a XRS and this post is a 56K Killer!

The start Ottawa;

The math;

Ottawa to San Diego and back by a circuitous route. 13,433 KM 8,347 Miles over 211 Canadian gallons average 39.4 mpgs
Over 254 US gallons average 32.8 mpgs
over 962.82 Liters average 7.17 Liters per 100 Km.

The fun;

What more can a real man ask for? Here on the northern shore of Lake Superior you have it all. A chip wagon, smoked fish, Gasoline, a liquor store souvenirs and a Camping Supply store. Utopia?

Light starts to fail and ...

Night falls over WaWA Ontario and we push on.

Think you know dust, ha, ha, ha!!!

Really!!

Lake Superior is huge! Actually it is classified as an inland sea.

A loon in Manitoba keeps us company and sings a song during a rest break.

YES Manitoba and Saskatchewan are as vast as you can imagine.

All the shades of green and yellow are there.

Finally Saskatchewan and the farm, a couple of sections of land. (a mile by a mile square)

Nope we haven't washed the car yet. Just tank after tank of gas.

The catalyst of the trip a 50th Anniversary party and all came.

Got to go as there is no fence between us!

Montana continued flat and then there is the Bear Tooth Highway! here we are at over 11,000 feet

Even though it is August there is still snow around and it is cold, very cold, you can see your breath.

Way above the tree line.

A Wyoming Butte.
And Mountain

And the Matrix makes it into Yellowstone National Park,

And blasting down the highway we enter the Grand Teton NP.

More mountains and more cruise control set in 3rd gear. The poor little 4 banger can't pull the car in 6th, 5th or 4th!

Welcome to Jackson Hole at 10,500 feet ... got oxygen?
A very picturesque and expensive vacation spot. Think of Niagara-On-The-Lake or Frankenmuth with a western motif.

Looking back on the 10 degree climb out of Jackson Hole. Another case of cruise set in 3rd and letting the car haul itself up the hill. Now that is hard work.

Nevada roads are straight, very straight nothing gets in their way.

Overnighted in Reno and on to Yosemite

Even dirtiernow.

Looking carefully you can se another huge 3rd gear climb up the mountain.

The next several pictures are of Yosemite and the area is breathtaking.

and here after climbing another 2,000 feet off the valley floor you see half doam and El Capitan

3rd gear cruise set and some second gear with no cruise and the XRS took it all. However I do miss the "grunt" of my old BMW 850i.

Finally the Pacific Ocean...BUT there is a "marine layer" and we have some how been mysteriously transported back in time and are surrounded by antique, exotic, one of a kind and prototype cars.

Nice Ferrari and he has the nicest accessory blond with him.

And the MB guys were out exercising some of their fleet. The "Pace Car" had to have had an exhaust delete. at WOT I have never heard anything louder. It just squatted, made a huge noise and was gone...WOW!!!

More of the older MB crowd, including a gull wing.

The Trix in Carmel-by-the-Sea by million dollar cottages.

I overheard the navigator saying to the driver "I thought you were to use the lock-tight on the fenders not me?

A few friends looking over the cars.

This is a Lalique Hood Ornament on a Packard. It alone is worth more than the XRS, by a wide margin.

The Marine Layer lifter at Pebble Beach.

Bummer...Cut off at 50 photos...To be continued

When gas in a remore area was expensive I would do a partial fill and then fill in a bigger city. That is why the spread sheet show some large fills. They are a partial and full fill combined.

Cut and paste ftom the spread sheet

EDIT... that didn't work, will try somethine else.

There was no US dollar conversion made so gas cost about $1,200 Canadian

it was painfull to fill up north of Lake Superior!!! Always over $60 a tank.
