4wd Xrs

Can someone tell me why toyota doesn't make a 4wd XRS? Also, I am sure the tranny on the XR is totally different than the XRS but, maybe, just maybe, would it be possible to find a wrecked 4WD XR and swap the drivetrain over to the 180 hp 2ZZ XRS? It is probably possible but would lose the 6 speed.
I can dream can"t I?

EVERONE>>>PLEASE READ

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass or a dumb ass. Just a serious question I'm sure a lot of people have. Mr. Moderator, if you read
this, I have a question for you....
Is this forum a joke or are there some serious people out there with serious questions AND serious answers? I want to learn all I can about the car all of us own or want to own. Now I'm wondering if this is just a joke or game for some of us losers to spend our time on. If it is, count me out. If I can learn something about my car, and maybe teach someone else with my experience on cars, then LETS SEE IT!!!

I sense frustration.

The reason for not having your question answered may be that nobody knows. The 1ZZ and 2ZZ share the same basic block architecture so it would be reasonable to assume that the transfer case from the 4WD system would bolt up. But... the swap from 1ZZ to 2ZZ isn't as straightforward as it may seem, I'm pretty sure that most of the wiring harness is different between the two. Many people have though long and hard about swapping out the 1ZZ in favor of the 2ZZ in Celica's and MRS', but most people see the cost and decide against. Also you've gotta keep in mind that the 2ZZ does have 180HP but the torque curve is kinda weak compared to the 1ZZ. The 4WD system saps a lot of power, combined with added weight, it wouldn't make for much performance. The 1ZZ has historically been the choice for tuning (aside from those crazy jap shops with more resources than NASA.) A turbo'd 4WD 1ZZ would be cheaper and easier than swapping a 2ZZ. Another question is what to do about the auto tranny? Maybe the Caldina tranny will work, dunno.

Hope it helps

Initially, people were saying that the 2ZZ was too powerful for the 4WD drivetrain. But now we know that ain't true because there's guys with the 4WD slapping on the TRD SC.

Before the Matrix was officially released, I was hoping that the XRS would be available in 4WD.

First slap in the face of course was that it wasn't available.
Second slap in the face was the TRD supercharger you could put on the 4WD after having bought the XRS.

I love the VVTL-i. Going back and doing it again, I would have chosen the XRS still.

Oh yeah...1337...behave.

Its torque that breaks driveline parts, not HP. I wonder why they would say that it wasn't strong enough.

The real question is..why the heck didn't Toyota just offer the Caldina GT-Four here? (Essentially an AWD Matrix with 260ps 4th gen 3S-GTE)...

That Caldina would have to be sold for at least $35000 or probably even higher. Toyota was aiming to sell the Matrix to first time buyers/twentysomethings. They wouldn't be able to afford the Caldina. But oddly enough, I see a lot more seniors driving around in Matrices than the intended age group they were aiming for.
