high beams

ok i really hope that someone here can help. i am having a problem with my high beams, i have a 2003 Matrix XR, and occasionally when i start the car the high beams come on by themselves, it only seems to happen when the weather is cold and of course the lights are on. if i work the turn signal/high beam switch back and forth they will resume normal operation until you use the turn signals, then they come back on. it is quite frustrating and recently my wife got a ticket from an officer who thought she was warning other drivers of a police officer running radar.

A related problem I had resulted in having the turn signal switch replaced under warranty.

My problem had the lowbeams turning on while the car was off! One morning I approached my car w/ the headlights on. I was baffled.

hmmm, i was afraid of that, naturally my warranty is no longer in effect. i was hoping that it may be something that i can fix myself, i have the mechanical and electrical skills just trying to figure out where to start. i guess i will get my hands on a service manual and see what i can uncover.

I should clarify. It wasn't the turn signal switch itself rather it was the turn signal/headlight switch stem that is mounted to the steering column that was faulty and replaced.

You maybe able to find a how-to on it since there were people who've been replacing the stem from non-foglight switch stem to foglight switch stem.
