2006 Matrix Drips Below Engine Compartment

I bought a 2006 Matrix and have been driving it about a week. I love it but don't know if I have a problem or not. I have noticed drips under the car that appear to be water, but I have not been running the air conditioner. The place where I bought it says that it is still probably from the AC compressor because it comes on even when the AC isn't being used. Someone told me this is true because the compressor cycles periodically even in winter for lubrication and to remove humidity from inside the car so the windows fog up less. This sounds reasonable but does anyone have a similar experience or further comments?
