When to replace your drive belt?

I dropped my car off at the dealer to get an oil change. They called me saying that the drive belt is cracked and needs to be replaced. My 06 Matrix only has 64,000 km on it. I decided to replace the belt and asked for the old one when I picked up my car. Looking at the old belt it has small cracks all over it but they don't look deep at all & I'd classify them as "superficial". I have no idea if this belt needed to be replaced. Any feedback or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

10 yrs?! lol. Surely you're not talking about in the Matrix or Corolla. The accessory drive/serpentine belt is notorious for squealing and/or cracking in our cars. Very common occurrence.

I had mine replaced under warranty back in the day and I think I only had under 30000km at the time!

See?

I think AE92's were more reliable than the Matrix!

Typically from what I've seen the drive belt on the 1ZZ usually needs to be replaced every 45-60,000 kms.

The newer drive belts tend to crack more often, etc, because it's one belt driving everything on the engine and it makes more changes in direction than was typical of older engines.

Anyone could tell me where I could replace the Gatorback belt in GTA (prefer Markham area and private garage). How much does it cost?

Thanks.

I have 45,000 miles and there are small surface cracks, but nothing unusual. I was buying parts at the dealership and asked a guy there when when they usually change the serpentine belt on Matrixes and he said at 90,000 miles typically.
