For a new car you can change at the first oil change to synthetic, that's what I did.

I was told to let the car break in with the oil that it came with as this had special treatments from the manufacturer.

during the break-in period if the car is manual to let the rings seat properly you should hold it, in gear for example you shift up to 4th gear vary the speeds but do not shift to 5th this will let the rings seat.

I am running mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 for the winter in the spring/summer i will switch to 5w50, i am also running mt-90 redline synthetic for my transmission big difference over the toyota supplied one espicially on cold mornings you will appreciate the synthetic like I did this morning. I am very impressed, not to mention peace of mind with protection.

now running synthetic does not mean you do not adhere to toyota's recommended change periods still do, I actuall change 1k before the recommended change....

my $0.02

synthetic works and works great, i've been using it from about 1990 in my 89 accord, and every car since....

Our Toyota dealers here now offer Mobil 1 as an option over the Toyota brand synthetic oil. I'm putting it in at my next oil change.

when you car is brand new, use 5w-30, start using something thicker once it reaches 90,000......

BTW, package #2 Rules!

it's cheaper to buy your own oil, Walmart/Crappy tire sells them in the correct amount for our cars they take just a tad over 4L and the jugs come in 4.4L size and the cost is i believe $28 for this which is better than buying 4 or 5 litres @ $8 a Litre even though I do keep a litre in my car for topping up purposes so far I have no need to so it's there for just in case one should always have this in their cars at all times...

just saw the top of the post....

(i know Rule #10 just let it slide)

YOU HAD TO ASK!@%@#& IF MOBIL 1 Synth WAS GOOD!&@!#*@$(

(Caps lock off)

Holy shit man! they build freeking GTP (that P is for prototype for all of u who dont know what a GTP car is) Mottors with that stuff!! its the best oil on the market! the fact that you can go into 9000 Preformace and mottor shops and 99.9 precent of them will say they biuld with Mobil one Synth should tell you somthing. (that.1 precent are shops that are funded by an oil manufacture)

as for 5w-30 good for Vareable valve timing mottors when they are new. also a new mottor dosent need to wory about lose seals high weght is for motors that leak. Plane and simple. exotics use oil that is almost the concistancy of watter just becuse they change the oil so often and the engines are biult to amazing specs.

go thick when you start leeking is my rule of thum. or if u start burning it.
