Red face Belt tensioner-2003 Matrix

The pulley (that I guess is the belt tensioner) will not budge under considerable force.

Am I trying to move the right pulley?
Tight spot, hard to see.I am assuming it is the pulley near top of the engine, seems to be attached to a short pivot arm and the other end of the arm attached to a tiny "shock absorber" at the back of the engine-is it the belt tensioner?

The autozone site has some info on changing the belt.

That is a pic of the tensioner.
Here is a diagram of the tensioner: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_200....html?hl=16620

You want to remove the bolt (part number 90105‑12297) after you release the tension and remove the serp belt. I am not sure what you are trying to do, replace the belt, tensioner, or both? Might try a cheater bar for some more leverage. There is a TSB on the tensioner, it is not the pulley that is the problem, but the half ass shock absorber they used. If you replace just the pulley, it is likely it will still squeak.

Did you move the correct bolt? Is it possible that you are trying to move the "fake nut", the nut that releases the tension? I just replaced my squeaky tensioner last week. I had to loosen the motor mount, and then jack up the engine to pull out the bolt from the tensioner. What a pain.
