I have an '04 XR in otherwise excellent condition.

I was told by another XR ('05) owner that there is a shim or something behind the left rear outside door handle that rusts resulting in paint damage.

I looked at mine and sure enough there is rust starting to show on the lower edge and into the paint.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? I'd like to fix this before it gets real bad.

I noticed that on mine also, I'm sorry I dont have a fix but I think when I take mine in for another paint job I might just shave the rear handles.

I've got it too on both rear doors.

Just so you guys know your not alone, I also have it on both rear doors of my 04` XRS. I've had it since the car was about 1 year old. A little rubbing compound and waxing helps, but it keeps coming back.
