2004 Matrix w/140000 - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

We're looking at a Matrix w/140000 miles. Price is good and it's not a salvage. Current owner doesn't know about its maintenance history. Should we run? Or, what should we look out for? Also, one thing that concerns me is ground clearance. We get winter snow and from what I've read it's 5.5" w/16" tires unless you get 17" then it's 6.5 inches. We like spider spikes and I don't know if we got the 17" tires if there would be enough wheel clearance for the spikes. Any input would be appreciated.

The overall diameter of the OEM 16's and 17's are almost identical. The \matrix has more wheel clearance than any other car out there. You shouldn't have any problems. As for the engine concerns and maintenance history have it checked independantly by your own mechanic for some piece of mind.
