03 Matrix SRS Light on and annoying me

So I have an 03 matrix with quite a bit of mileage on it (112k) but never had any problems with it whatsoever. It has also never been in an accident. Yesterday right smack in the middle of the day, I notice the light came on. I'm a little unsure as to why this would happen and I'm always wary about going to the dealership since they usually charge an arm and a leg. I also haven't done anything recent on the car that would have triggered the light to come on. Any suggestions?

SRS light would come for a number of reasons. Could be anything from a bad connection to a faulty airbag madule. You don't want to find out the hard way - ie., get into an accident only to findout the airbags will not pop or pop on you unexpectedly. Cars will also have SRS faults even if they are well cared for - sometimes its a crushed cable or corrosion that triggers it.

This is something you should definitely take to a dealership and have them diagnose. Not something you want to monkey around yourself. This way - there is also a paper trail started on the issue. If something was to happen down the road, you have this as a possible recourse.

I think that Autozone or whatever Pepboys one of them does free Diagnostic checks with there scanner and then you can know what the problem is.

Good luck

Thanks for your advice. I have a friend who has the scanner so he'll take a look at it and let me know what it is. If he can't fix, he'll let me know to go to the dealership.
